So I noticed today that Feist’s Let it Die finally has Stateside release.
Tower Records had it priced pretty cheap too.
I highly recommend the investment.
The European edition has two extra tracks but this is basically the same album I’ve been enjoying all year!
Except for the cover art.
Which is so blah I barely noticed it on the shelves.
This is it.
Looks like a generic stock photo from a catlogue, half-assedly edged up; no budget for more than two-color separation? The art direction does nothing for me – very early nineties actually – and fails brilliantly to sell the multi-faceted vibrancy of Feist.
Are they trying for a Goth image or something... if so, that is so off the mark.
I’m actually kind of glad Feist’s US label, Interscope, is seriously screwing up big time in the marketing department because I like to keep my music sacred and under the radar.
I’m a selfish elitist that way.
And I pay way too much attention to art direction all the time.
I was really worried that Feist would explode into a Norah Jones kind of the thing in the US since she has such fresh appeal and crossover potential. Not to mention exceptional talent.
But so far, any buzz its going to have to result from word of mouth or careful placement or, blah, from the blogosphere.
Geffen/Interscope/Cherry Hill's marketing and promotions department, not to mention their art directors, seem to be doing dick-all with Feist.
Meanwhile, I'll continue with my guerilla marketing and implore you to buy Feist's Let It Die this weekend!
yeah, except mention of feist is seriously exploding on the blogosphere right now (or maybe just in all the junky stuff i read :)
and wasn't there a media piece the other week about her being the latest in the wave of european chick rockers, like nouvelle vague and keren ann and carla b etc etc? maybe it was the new york times, i can't remember where.
